Rick
I needed a small compressor for filling up lawn mower, bike, trailer & car tires & blowing off a mower deck or work bench. That's all I got this for & this compressor does a great job for me. If you are buying it for bigger jobs such as running air tools, I can't really comment on that applacation. But I'm happy with this little compressor for what I use it for.

Worth the Money
I like everything about it and everything works great. There was some damage in shipping but I called campbell Hausfeld and they sent me a new part right away at no cost.

Missing hose
Assembly was OK but you do have to be somewhat technical. The instruction manual was not easy to read. My biggest complain is the missing hose. I have to figure out what size hose and fitting I need and spend $20 to get it.

Good cheap compressor 4 stars, UPS no stars
It is a cheap compressor for light home use. Looks like good value for little cost. It works well. The true test will be for how long. UPS on the other hand sucks. The compressor was delivered with a cracked metal pump head. The packaging seemed adequate. The box was broke open and looked like it was dropped kick off a moving truck. Amazon shipped another one and UPS picked up the first one. The second one has a dent in the end of the tank. It works and after all the hassle I will keep it. Bottom line do not order anything with UPS you can not throw out of a second story window.

Home Use
This was my second Campbell Hausfeld air compressor and the first one lasted 35 years. This unit is a good bit noisier than my previous one but the tank fills faster. I have used it for about a month and find it to do all that it is advertized to do.

Customer Review :
Nice little compressor
I use the larger, MAC2400 compressor at work and it has been running flawless for the last four, five years. When it came time to pick up a compressor for personal use, my requirements were that it be well built, quiet (I live in an attached townhouse) and not too expensive. I will be using it for typical around the garage chores, filling tires, blowing off parts, airing up the kids toys, that sort of thing. For my purposes this little compressor is perfect. It is very quiet, and built like a tank. I paid under $190 for it shipped. I tried to find one local, since I was pretty freaked out after reading all the reviews about receiving a damaged unit but had no luck.
Mine arrived via Fed Ex in a few days and I noticed a pretty good ding on the cardboard shipping carton. When I opened it up I saw quite a bit of oil on one side of the shipping carton. Expecting the worse, I gingerly pulled out the compressor and gave it a thorough going over. There appeared to be no damage, but there was a lot of oil in the carton. I checked the enclosed container of compressor oil (compressor ships dry) and it wasn't leaking. It turns out that there was a note enclosed that said the compressor was filled with oil at the factory for testing. Once the test was completed, the oil was drained. Instead of putting the oil filler cap back on the compressor, the factory sticks a simple plastic plug into the oil fill hole. It was simply the residual oil left in the compressor leaking out of that plastic plug. There was absolutely no damage at all to the compressor. I broke it in per the recommendations (no load for at least 20 minutes) and it was been working great. I fully expect this little compressor to last for years and years. The MAC2400 at work is seriously abused and still runs like new. BTW, the MAC2400 is as quiet or quieter than this compressor. I didn't feel like spending over $300 on a compressor though.

Very Quiet
I purchased the MAC700 compressor a week ago and it arrived in perfect condition by FedEX. I have been around many compressors over the years and I have to say that this is the most quiet one I have seen or heard. This is my first time owning one and I regret having waited so long. Sure, it does not have the capacity as the larger, more obnoxiously loud ones, but for the average homeowner, this should suffice adequately. I have used my nailers and tire gauges with it and experience no problems. Yes, it does cycle more often as others have said, but the size and weight are well within portability making it a great trade-off. Good work Makita!!

Best Compressor for the money
I did a lot of homework regarding Air Compressors before I bought this one. I decided to go with an oil-filled compressor due to the low noise level and the simple fact of longevity. This compressor fills extremely fast and puts out a decent CFM at 90 psi. I looked at sears for comparable units and couldn't find one with good buyer reviews. This is my first Makita product and I am absolutely satisfied. Plus free shipping- can't beat it.

Not a bad compresser
After reading the reviews about all the broken gauges I thought i would get lucky and get a good one, but not so the gauge was broken. I didn't want to mess with it so just went to the hardware store and found one that would fit. I am a fan of Makita, but will think twice before buying from them again. After all bad reviews about broken gauges you would think makita would pull their heads out and fix it.

Arrived in good shape
My compressor arrived today! After all the negative comments regarding the condition the compressor arrives in, I was a little worried, but mine arrived in tip-top shape... thank you FedEx.
The initial set-up and run-in instructions are a little on the concise side (actually they are a LOT on the concise side). If, like me, you've never owned or operated a compressor before, it takes a fair amount of independent thought, and a lot of muttering to one's self, before one can make complete sense of the instructions.
Once past this however, I ran in the compressor for the recommended 20 minutes, then put it to work inflating the tires of our two cars. So far I must pronounce myself completely satisfied. As advertised, it is relatively quiet. Our next-door neighbors have not-quite one year-old twins. I didn't want to wake them from their afternoon nap, so made sure to start the run-in in our garage with the door closed. I needn't have worried, the noise it made wasn't anything that would unduly disturb one baby, let alone two.
It's fairly heavy, as other reviewers have mentioned, but isn't difficult to carry, or move around. It is also very simple to operate.
The project I really bought it for is still in the advanced planning stage, so I'm not able to attest to its ability to do heavy duty work. But already I am certain that it will be more than up to the tasks I will be requiring of it. It's indisputably a quality product, and I am very satisfied with my purchase so far.

Customer Review :
It leaked the first minute
I received it brand new on June 12, 2009, checked the oil and turned it on. It compressed fast and I let it stand without connecting any hoses to check for leaks, as I could hear sound between the pump and the tanks. Sure enough, within minutes the pump came on. Called Ingersoll, they gave me a number and address for a local local repair shop, yet to take it there. Disconnected from the power source and let it stand over night. By early next morning, it dropped from 125 psi to under 20. Disappointed by IR?? Yes!!!! Home Depot would have been better.
Update, June 22. Took it to the repair shop on Monday, June 15. It took them until Friday 4:00 p.m. to call me that they tightened some connectors and sealed other joints. Picked it up before 5 p.m. Compressed it to 125 psi. By 6:30 a.m. on Saturday it was down to 40 psi. Called the shop and Ingersoll. The shop said to take it back to them. I'll post an update after the second visit to the shop.

Not A 100% Duty Cycle - False advertising
The previous reviewer was correct. I called IR and they said that for this product 100% meant there was air in the tank 100% of the time. This is not the industry definition of duty cycle - actual duty cycle is no better than other brands. Also I went to their website and pulled up the Manual and it said the compressor could not be operated if temperatures are less than 32 degrees. Pretty worthless to a contractor in "North" america. [...]
Check out this Makita - a much better unit for the money [...]

NOT 100% duty cycle as claimed, and very cheaply made
Some retailers will claim this unit is made in the US...it is actually made in Italy. (And very poorly at that...)
First off, the compressor arrived with no fewer than three air leaks. The dual quick-connect fitting, and both drain cocks, were installed with NO tape or dope. Worse, once I re-installed them PROPERLY, one of the drain cocks was next to impossible to close completely, and the other could not be turned tightly enough to completely close it off, including with a wrench.
So I called IR customer service (1-800-SERV-AIR) to order replacements. While on the phone, I asked the tech about the claimed 100% duty cycle. Turns out it's nowhere even near that! He said that if the compressor cycles more than 7 times an hour, it is considered abuse.
SEVEN TIMES AN HOUR?? That's roughly two pin nailers! Must be Ingersoll has a different definition for 'duty cycle' than the industry standard. Interestingly enough, it is only the marketing materials which say 100%...it is mentioned nowhere in the owners manual.
And finally, because the unit was intended for the European market, the regulators are primarily denominated in bars, not PSI. The PSI scale is the inner reading (think km/h on a US speedometer), and is very difficult to read quickly.
Bottom line...get something else. You can find a much better unit for much less money. Apparently Ingersoll has gone the 'value engineering' route, and that's a shame.

Thanks for the reviews.
I've been looking for a compressor to replace my Hitachi that I use on jobs. I needed one that was under 15 amps, but still powerful enough to run my nail guns. The Hitachi was throwing breakers. I bought two DeWalt's, but one wouldn't start up and the other had a massive air leak in the regulator. After reading these reviews, I decided to give this compressor a try. It was better packaged then the others and just seemed better built. It started right up, built up pressure and held air without any problems. I've been using it all week with both a framing gun and coil nailer without any problems. Best of all, it hasn't tripped a breaker!!!!

Great Price for a Great Compressor!
This is the first air compressor I have ever purchased for home use. I have worked with air compressors for over 30 years at my job and Ingersoll Rand is a very trusted name in the business. The compressor arrived and I noticed right away that the brass fitting that connected the regulator to the top tank was snapped clean off at the threads. I immediately contacted Amazon about this and within a few hours had a reply from them. They informed me that I could receive a replacement or a refund for the item. I chose to receive a replacement unit. Within four working days I had the replacement unit and I had yet to send back the broken unit. (Which I did the next day with free return shipping) The replacement unit arrived in perfect condition and after checking the oil and putting in the dip stick, it fired right up. I have used it to put air in my car and truck tires, but I am sure I will find more uses for it. As for being loud, it is a compressor but I do not feel it is overly noisy. It does loose pressure over time, but this is not a problem as I do not keep it pressured up when not in use. I would think that a little tightening of fittings would solve this. I also plan on later date to change the brass fitting into the top tank to a steel fitting. I also like the fact it has a 2HP motor when all the others I looked at were less HP. Overall, a Great Price for a Great Compressor! Also, I am impressed with Amazon.com in that they replied to me quickly and after making my choice they sent me an email with a return label for me to print out so that the return shipping was free. They handled this problem quickly and professionally. Five stars to Amazon.com as well!

Questions & Answers Powered by Yahoo! Answers
Question : I have a husky air compressor that will only build pressure to 60 psi but the motor keeps running
My husky air compressor is probably 5 years old. When I turn it on it will only pressurize up to 60 psi but the motor keeps running until I shut it off manually. HELP
Answer:
It sounds like the intake valves are bad. They are little spring loaded disc type check valves that are usually located in the top of the compressor head or the intake manifold. They are inexpensive and easy to replace. You can usually buy a kit that includes the discs, guides, springs and head gaskets if needed.

Question : What kind of air compressor should I be looking for
I need to buy an air compressor for filling tires. I want something strong enough to deliver air quickly, like a shop air compressor, but not so large that it's unwieldy and high maintenance. What should i look for Is it true some compressors can shoot out oil or moisture through the hose, and into the tire The gas station that I go to can inflate tires about 1 psi a second on a 235/65 16 tire. I'd like to have something near this performance.
Answer:
you could go to home depot and get a little five gallon tank air comp that would probably do pretty good...good luck
