Questions & Answers
Question : Why is the air compressor on my 96 Ford Explorer turning on and then shutting off in seconds?
Air is cool but doesn't get cold , under the hood you can hear the compressor kick on and then in seconds shuts off

Answer:
a low level of freon

Question : What is a good safe level to set my air compressor when dusting computers?
I got tired of spending $10+ a month on canned air, so I bought an Air Compressor and the nozzle attachment with a trigger. I was told not to allow the compressor to shoot out too much air because it may damage the computer parts. What is a safe level to set the compressor (PSIs)?

Answer:
This is too good a question to pass up, so here goes,You either have a thousand computers to clean or you are in a terrible location (dust wise). So I figgered, heck, you can always use the compressor to use a pneumatic jackhammer when the dust gets so packed that ya gotta use it to loosen the petrified dust.Talk about over stocking mechanical supplies for something simpler. That's like getting a bulldozer to dig a small hole in the sand.;-)

Question : How does this air tank/compressor work?
So I have a 15lb. air tank which has three spiky things that air comes out of or goes into and a pressure gague and a release lever. I need to make it into an air compressor to fire a cannon (theatre thing). I don't have any idea how to power this. There are no plugs or cords or anything! Help, I'm feeling like an idiot.Actually, this is for shooting fake blood across a stage.

Answer:
those tanks are filled at a station that services and rents them, most have heillium for balloons but some are compressed air. they hold a great deal of air. Try a party store for info

Question : Air Compressor?
Thinking of buying a air compressor to run air guns like roofing nailers or framing nailers. Wondering if anyone had any ideas?

Answer:
There are many different types of air compressors out there. The more portable ones are only going to have a capacity of a few gallons. If you are running 1-2 guns you will probably be fine. If you are planning on using a lot of pneumatic tools at the same time you might want to step up to a 25 gallon or more. Not as portable, but you can set it up on a jobsite and run multiple lines off it. You can get one of those starting at 250 dollars depending on where you shop. You can get package deals that come with a nailer, but those are portables. I would get a compressor with a direct drive and go oilless. Easier to maintain, if you use it heavily, drain the water out of it daily.Tank capacity has everything to do with peformance. Try running a pneumatic drill with a portable air compressor for more than 5 seconds. If you look at the specs on your air tools it will tell you the minimum tank capacity required to operate your tools.

Question : How long can an air compressor run a drill?
I was just wondering if they make an air compressor that is efficient enough to run a pneumatic drill constantly without stopping the drill. Or is the amount of air used by the drill and bleed air more than an air compressor can output? If not, which air compressor is the best?

Answer:
depends on the requirements of the drill motor and the capacity of the air compressor.

Question : My Air Compressor releases cold and low pressure, how do I fix this?
I have a two stage IR STATIONARY AIR COMPRESSOR 13HP. When its cold at night the air compressor pressure goes very slow even when i release all the air and water in the condensation tank. The pressure that comes out of the air lines to move the air tool is so slow that the air tool does not move. How do i solve this problem when I am working in the cold weather.

Answer:
Check to see if your regulator is frozen or damaged. You can do this by taking it off, and connecting the hose with out it.

Question : How important is it to carry an air compressor in a vehicle?
If a person periodically checks/fills the air pressure in all tires (including the spare) at the gas station, are there still reasons to carry an air compressor? If so, what are they? Thanks!

Answer:
It's not that important because there is usually a gas station nearby and they have free air.. I'm guessing that like 5% of people or less have an air compressor in their car

Question : What size air compressor is suitable to use to spraypaint a car?
i recently sprayed my car and on the top of the doors it is glossy and down the doors it is dull, what went wrong?i mixed the paint properly and sprayed at the right distance with a proper spray gun...please someone help ,i am thinking the air compressor didnt have enough pressure

Answer:
WHAT WENT WRONG IS THAT YOU DIDNT KNOW WHAT YOU WERE DOING. DID YOU USE A HVLP GUN DID YOU HAVE A PRESSURE REGULATOR IN LINE? ITS BETTER TO FIND THIS STUFF OUT BEFRE YOU PAINT!!!

Question : what is wrong with my air compressor pressure switch?
I have a air compressor with a Furnas style switch with a bleed off valve. My compressor works fine until the set pressure is reached and the bleed off valve is opened. When this happens the bleed off valve bleeds off the pressure in the tank and the compressor cycles again over and over and over. is the bleed off valve bad or does it have a check valve before it? If its at all possible can I just put a cap where the bleed off valves hose runs to on the tank?

Answer:
Sound like you have a sticking pressure switch. You DON'T want to cap off the bleed line, as this could cause too much pressure to build up in your reservoir, possibly causing damage to your compressor or yourself. Your switch will be easy to replace, and not too expensive.

Question : How exactly does a portable air compressor take in air?
The air compressor runs on fuel. It has a stator and an armature, but what do they do?

Answer:
In simple terms....it takes in air through a one way flapper and and pushes air into a holding tank which has a oneway flapper to keep it in.I know real technical term flapper...thats what they call it on the parts list.
