Questions & Answers
Question : What size/power air compressor do you use to blow out lines on inground pool for winterization?
Last year we used a shop vac on blow, but it's not working on the return jet for some reason. We'd like to buy an air compressor for that and just to have around the garage. What size/power or whatever they are measured in is required to blow out the lines for a pool? They are about 20-30 feet long. And how do you create a seal over the pipe to blow them out? When we had someone close the pool 2 years ago, they had the end of the compressor hose go into a rubber cork like thing that they put right into the pipe end. Is that something offfical you can buy, or something they created??
Answer:
A regular portable air compressor will work just fine. You will also be able to use it to keep your tire pressures up to save energy. You didn't say what size the pool pipe is, so go to a hardware store and ask for an electrical CGB. Inside this electrical fitting is a tapered grommet. Buy the one with the O.D. bigger than your pipe, and the I.D. slightly smaller than the diameter of your blow nozzle. Slip the grommet on the blow nozzle, and force the grommet against your pipe. You will want to set the regulator on your compressor to approximately 40 pounds.Good luck!

Question : How can an air compressor be used as a pressure washer?
Hi, how can an air compressor be used as a pressure washer? I assume some sort of attachment with a place for a water hose to be attached? And where can I find such an attachment? Thanks in advance!

Question : What type of pneumatic nailer and air compressor do I use to install crown molding?
I am putting up crown molding and I want to use a nail gun. I also want to get an air compressor that is not too cheap that I can put in my work shop for future projects. I may do some roofing in the future. What type of air compressor should I get? What type of nail gun for the crown molding? I am on a budget. So I don't want to spend any more than I have to.
Answer:
A small kit cost about $ 200.00 Can, the brad nailer is good enough for crown just use a little liqud nails the brads will hold the crown in place, the nailer should take up to 1.3/4 nails anyway

Question : What is the best multi purpose air compressor?
I would like to buy an air compressor that I can use for both inflating car and bike tires, as well as for tools like framing, brad and finishing nailers. Compact size and budget conscious too. Any suggestions?
Answer:
Well... you will have to size the compressor to the heaviest use - and that would be the framing nailer. And any compressor that will drive a framing nailer will also drive (one at a time) automotive tools such as air wrenches. It will NOT drive a paving breaker or any other such extremely heavy use. So, you are already outside of standard hobby compressor range and into a small contractor's compressor. The minimum requirement for a framing nailer is about 2.5CFM at 90 psi. Go for one that is capable of at least 3CFM to have a small margin. Otherwise, when you are 'moving right along' you run the chance of mis-nailing - a major PITA and time-waster.

Question : Is there an alternative to bolting down a vertical air compressor?
I have a 80 gallon 2 stage air compressor. It is currently bolted down to the concrete garage floor. However, I will be moving into a house at the end of the month and the landlord does not want me drilling into the concrete floor. Is there an alternative to bolting down the compressor? Evidently bolting it down gives it structural support against the vibration. Any ideas?
Answer:
Yes, I bolted mine to a wooden palet, works greak for 7 years now.

Question : Air Compressor?
Thinking of buying a air compressor to run air guns like roofing nailers or framing nailers. Wondering if anyone had any ideas?
Answer:
There are many different types of air compressors out there. The more portable ones are only going to have a capacity of a few gallons. If you are running 1-2 guns you will probably be fine. If you are planning on using a lot of pneumatic tools at the same time you might want to step up to a 25 gallon or more. Not as portable, but you can set it up on a jobsite and run multiple lines off it. You can get one of those starting at 250 dollars depending on where you shop. You can get package deals that come with a nailer, but those are portables. I would get a compressor with a direct drive and go oilless. Easier to maintain, if you use it heavily, drain the water out of it daily.Tank capacity has everything to do with peformance. Try running a pneumatic drill with a portable air compressor for more than 5 seconds. If you look at the specs on your air tools it will tell you the minimum tank capacity required to operate your tools.

Question : What kind of air compressor is good for me?
I have been working on cars for a while with basic tools, no power tools really. Now I want to start doing body work and just have air tools to make it all easier. So I would like to have an overall air compressor that can handle everything. I don't know quite much on the subject, but I am currently reading up on it. So I'm just curious, what should I look for? What should the CFM be to handle all the tools I want? How big of a tank should I get?
Answer:
At least a 20 gallon tank, 30 would be better. Total up the CFM requirements of the tools you're looking to buy, then get a compressor that will handle those requirements. What you're asking is too broad to answer with any certainty.

Question : What is a reliable and QUIET portable air compressor?
I'm in need of an air compressor that just needs to run 3cfm.I'm in an apartment and would be running it for long hours, so I need a way to make it as quiet and as vibration free as possible. Thanks for your suggestions!
Answer:
Look under 'air compressors' in the yellow pages, and inquire about screw-type compressors.Actually, I just re-read your post, and 3 cfm is not much; is this for an air brush? Try art suppliers.
