Questions & Answers
Question : How to inflate a car tire without air tank or air compressor?
Normally if i was at my house this would be an easy fix, but since i am not i dont have any means of getting my air compressor or air tank. They are 4 hours away. I was wondering if anyone had any GOOD ideas on how to inflate my car tire without obtaining a 55 dollar towing fee to a tire shop.Sorry for not mentioning this, but the lugs on this thing are like glued on there ... i need to get it to a shop just to get the tire off. I hate over tightened lugs!
Answer:
Fix-A-Flat. If it's off the bead, use starting fluid and a match to seat the bead.

Question : How can I cut an air compressor tank into two even halves?
I have an old air compressor tank that I'm going to turn into a charcoal grill, but I'm having trouble figuring out how to measure / mark it so I can cut it lengthwise into to even halves. Any suggestions? I plan on using an angle grinder with a cutoff wheel to do the actual cutting.Thanks.
Answer:
Jo Ann has the basic right idea.First, snap a chalk line along one side of the tank. Make sure the line touches the center of the tank at each end.The circumference of a circle is pi times d, where pi is roughly equal to 355/113, and d is the diameter of the circle (your tank). Since you want to find the midpoint from your original chalk line, the distance around the circumference where you will mark your opposite cut line is (355/226) x d. Use a flexible tape for this measurement. Make your mark at each end, connect the marks and cut.The result will be as accurate as your measurements.

Question : air compressor!?
i just threw a Nathan p3 train horn in my car, with a craftsman 5 gallon 150psi air tank to power it.but the thing is, i cant fill the tank with the compressor i have, and all the gas station compressors stop at 80 psi.i have a very old 175 psi portable 12volt car outlet compressor but it wont even start to fill the tank.will this work on filling the tankhttp://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/MASTER-FLOW-CYCLONE-12V-150-PSI-PORTABLE-AIR-COMPRESSOR_W0QQcmdZV iewItemQQcategoryZ43986QQihZ002QQitemZ120171305497QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVWi don't care about checking the stupid laws on train horns if its illegal or not!you are doing something illegal tooyou are in contact with a minor (17) online!
Answer:
Your craftsman compressor should do the work , maybe is not working right or you're setting the regulator to high, you must set it at 100psi in order to get more CFM's , keep in mind that these horns need a lot of cfm's to work properly not too much pressure. you can find a lot of info for an instalation in a car, with these people they have everything. http://www.airhornsoftexas.com

Question : Should an Air Compressor blow off excess pressure at the crankcase?
I have a used 2 stage air compressor powered by an 5hp electric motor via a drive belt. The compressor is a two stage, it has a V shaped pump with one large and one small cylinder head. The large cylinder head has a small metal line coming from the top of the head, comes down and enters the crankcase via a fitting. The small cylinder head also has a line coming from the top of it's head and comes down and enters the through the side of the crankcase. The fitting that connects this line to the crankcase blows out air when the compressor is on. A friendly know-it-all said it was supposed to be this way to blow off excess pressure, but that doesn't make sense to me. Should this line (about the diameter of a metal brake line on a car) make an airtight seal where it enters the side of the pump crankcase or is this fitting designed to blow off excess pressure inside the crankcase? The compressor does shut off when psi reaches 100. The fittings on the line in question are tight. There is a threaded hole in the side of the crankcase, a square fitting with threaded rounded corners fits between the crankcase and the line coming from the secondary cylinder. I thought I once read that the crankcases on some air pumps are pressurized to reduce piston blowby, and I can see this being used for that, but if that's the case it seems there shouldn't be a strong blast of air coming from the fitting on the side of the crankcase. Again, it's a round hole with a square threaded adapter, and because you have a square inside a circle, you have open space around the side of the square for air to escape. This is the way we got the compressor, so I don't know if this is the way it came or someone just didn't have the right parts to repair it at one time. TY
Answer:
Yes, this compressor is operating correctly. Some compressors operate with automatic stop/start controls, which shut the compressor off when the proper pressure is reached. Other compressors have constant speed controls which uses a pneumatic (air) control line connected to a device which will hold the intake valves open to prevent more air pressure from building up once the desired pressure has been reached. This type of compressor will run in an "idle" mode when it has reached the proper pressure, and it will go back to normal compression mode when the pressure drops. Also, some larger compressors have the ability to bleed off the pressure from the top of the cylinder upon shutting down, so that the compressor motor will not have to start up under a large load. Unless you are simply talking about a loose fitting, there does not seem to be a problem with your machine.

Question : Is an air compressor a necessity in the car?
Ours, which is only two years old, is busted. I would like our air conditioner to work again, but it's not a necessity right now. Does the air compressor do anything else? We can't really afford to get it replaced right now.
Answer:
It depends what has failed. If the bearing is bad you'll have to replace it, since that pulley turns all the time, whether the air is on or not.zxc

Question : What kind of air compressor should I buy for spraying automobiles?
What kind of air compressor should I buy for spraying automobiles? Let me know the hp and how many gallons the compressor should have for use in a place like a body shop. Thanks.
Answer:
you need at least a 5.5 hp compressor. I've painted a car with a pancake compressor. I know you've seen the compressors that stand upright, like they're on a dollie. One of these will be fine, don't go buy some 10hp big ass compressor. Use your money to buy a quility paint gun. Look up bink online. They are reasonable.

Question : Is there an alternative to bolting down a vertical air compressor?
I have a 80 gallon 2 stage air compressor. It is currently bolted down to the concrete garage floor. However, I will be moving into a house at the end of the month and the landlord does not want me drilling into the concrete floor. Is there an alternative to bolting down the compressor? Evidently bolting it down gives it structural support against the vibration. Any ideas?
Answer:
Yes, I bolted mine to a wooden palet, works greak for 7 years now.

Question : what is wrong with my air compressor pressure switch?
I have a air compressor with a Furnas style switch with a bleed off valve. My compressor works fine until the set pressure is reached and the bleed off valve is opened. When this happens the bleed off valve bleeds off the pressure in the tank and the compressor cycles again over and over and over. is the bleed off valve bad or does it have a check valve before it? If its at all possible can I just put a cap where the bleed off valves hose runs to on the tank?
Answer:
Sound like you have a sticking pressure switch. You DON'T want to cap off the bleed line, as this could cause too much pressure to build up in your reservoir, possibly causing damage to your compressor or yourself. Your switch will be easy to replace, and not too expensive.

Question : How many gallons does my air compressor need to be to blow out the sprinkler system for my yard?
I am buying a house on a 0.25acre lot and I have sprinklers in the front and back. I dont wanna buy an air compressor too small so Id rather someone be wrong high than low. Also if you could explain the process of doing it you would get a best answer right away!!!!
Answer:
something in the range of 40 gal, with a pressure of at least 200 lbs.

Question : I have a husky air compressor that will only build pressure to 60 psi but the motor keeps running?
My husky air compressor is probably 5 years old. When I turn it on it will only pressurize up to 60 psi but the motor keeps running until I shut it off manually. HELP!!!
Answer:
It sounds like the intake valves are bad. They are little spring loaded disc type check valves that are usually located in the top of the compressor head or the intake manifold. They are inexpensive and easy to replace. You can usually buy a kit that includes the discs, guides, springs and head gaskets if needed.
